Brad Buckley defeats incumbent Scott Cosper in state representative primary runoff

Brad Buckley will face Democrat Kathy Richerson and Libertarian Robert Walden in the general election.

Killeen veterinarian Dr. Brad Buckley defeated incumbent Scott Cosper in the May 22 Republican primary runoff election for Texas' District 54 state representative seat.

Buckley handily defeated Cosper, earning 58-percent of the vote, according to the unofficial totals from Bell and Lampasas Counties, which are included in District 54. Buckley ended the night with 4,445 votes compared to Cosper's 3,185 votes.

This is not the first time Cosper has found himself in a runoff, although the 2016 primary runoff ended with his victory rather than his defeat. Prior to his state legislature election, Cosper was the mayor of Killeen.

Buckley campaigned on a commitment to Fort Hood, a vow to shut down sanctuary cities, a push toward more fiscal responsibility and a belief in smaller government.

Buckley will face Democrat Kathy Richerson and Libertarian Robert Walden in the November 6 general election.
