Details regarding what caused her to fall have not been released, but police did request an autopsy be performed.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — A freshman at Texas A&M University is dead after reportedly falling from the third-floor balcony at Dunn Hall, according to Texas A&M's Vice President for Student Affairs BG Joe E. Ramirez, Jr.

Ramirez identified the student as health major Britney Romero. Details regarding what caused her to fall have not been released, but police did request an autopsy be performed.

"We want to emphasize that Texas A&M’s top priority is our commitment to the well-being and safety of all our students," Ramirez said in a news release. "We intend to conduct a thorough and comprehensive review of what happened immediately. We know this is difficult news to share with our student body."

The university encourages students to seek support during this time. University Health Services and Student Assistance Services have counselors and case workers available to provide assistance.

Students can also access the TELUS Health Support App, available on Apple and Google app stores, for further support. Texas A&M's HelpLine is also accessible at 979-845-2700, with service available from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekdays and 24 hours on weekends.

"We encourage our Aggie community to come together to support one another, as we always do at times like this, while also praying for and supporting Britney’s family and all those grieving this tragic loss," he said.
