Why could some Verizon customers be getting a check in the mail?

A $100,000,000 settlement will soon be sent out to some Verizon customers

HOUSTON — Verizon is sending out postcards and emails right now to customers eligible for a refund. It is all thanks to a proposed $100 million settlement from a class-action lawsuit.

According to CNN, that suit claimed Verizon charged customers fees that were “unfair and not adequately disclosed."

The plaintiffs claim Verizon’s administrative charge was misleading and was not included in the monthly price for plans. Verizon has denied those claims, but they are willing to pay.

A lawyer for the plaintiffs tells the New York Times the $100 million settlement is among the largest against a company charging administrative fees. The customers included in the settlement are people in the U.S. who signed up for monthly plans and were charged an administrative fee between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023.

Before you get too excited about your chunk of the settlement, be aware the most you can get is $100 and the amount could be less depending on how long you were a customer and how many other people also file a claim.

A special website has been launched where you can file that claim. It is called VerizonAdministrativeChargeSettlement.com.
