Free Eclipse once in a lifetime concert at Century Square

Friends of Chamber Music and Brazos Valley Astronomy Club will be hosting a free concert and education event during the eclipse.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas —  On April 8, Friends of Chamber Music will be hosting a special musical event for the eclipse in Century Square.

In collaboration with the Brazos Valley Astronomy Club, Friends of Chamber music will be streaming a live feed of full totality from NASA, on two TV screens on the lawn.

FCM Board Member, Matias Barringer said, “Its free just show up to Century Square we got a great view of the sun right now is about the time it’ll happen the totally will be 140 about 98% totality here in College Station which is pretty good it’s going to be pretty interesting.”

This once in a lifetime event will be paired with educational experts explaining the phenomenon, free eclipse glasses for the first 200 attendees and of course, music.

Specifically, Friends of Chamber music will be composing an original piece, just for the eclipse.

“It is the first time in the history of friends chamber music that we are commissioning this piece to the local composer David Wilburn, professor at Texas A&M University, and he is writing this piece that is specifically supposed to be performed during the time of totality,” Artistic Director of FCM, Elena Reece said.

The event begins at 1 p.m. on April 8 and they will have five minutes of silence to enjoy the eclipse and then the music will resume.
