Brittney Griner's jersey retired by Baylor University

The ceremony took place ahead of the Baylor vs Texas Tech women's basketball game, on Sunday, Feb. 18.

WACO, Texas — From the record books, to the rafters, Brittney Griner's legacy will forever live on. Eleven years ago, the Baylor star was sinking shots and winning national titles with the Bears and on Sunday, her jersey was retired and she finally received her flowers.

The ceremony took place ahead of the Baylor vs Texas Tech women's basketball game, on Sunday, Feb. 18.

During her time with the Bears from 2009 to 2013, Griner left a mark, leading Baylor to a perfect 40-0 national championship season during her junior year. Her dominance on the court earned her the distinction of being the number one pick in the WNBA draft, selected by the Phoenix Mercury.

Griner's jersey retirement places her in esteemed company, making her the seventh women's basketball player in Baylor history to receive such an honor. She joins former teammates Odyssey Sims and Melissa Jones in this exclusive club.
