The La Vega Lady Pirates defeat Canyon and take home back-to-back state title wins in San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO — Back-to-back has a nice ring to it! 

The La Vega Lady Pirates are officially crowned your 4A state champions for the second straight year! All season long, the team had one goal: defend their crown. On Saturday night with a 45-36 win over No. 8 Canyon, the Pirates sailed to their second-straight state title.

La Vega had two players in double figures with Alaysia Gude racking in 10 first half points on the night. Angela Carroll and Sydney McKinney continued to attack the glass with 13 combined boards. 

The Lady Pirates defense stayed strong holding Canyon to only 21% from three. 

Future Wichita State star, Kiyleyah Parr, played her final game as a Pirate snagging 21 points, 8 steals and 4 assists, being named the state tournament MVP. 

The Lady Pirates now head back to Waco with not one, but two state title rings and their third state championship in school history.
