WACO, Texas — After the college sports year was cut short, the first North American professional sports event is Friday's WNBA draft.

Three Baylor Lady Bears could hear their names called: Lauren Cox, Te'a Cooper and Juicy Landrum.

"I certainly think all three have a chance to be a part of the draft," President and CEO of the Dallas Wings Gregg Bibbs said.

Lauren Cox is all but a lock to be picked early on.

"I think my ability to pass and ability to defend all different levels, inside and outside, is going to help me a lot at the next level," Cox said.

"She did play, for several years, with Kalani Brown where she had to step out to be the four and she does have the range to play on the wing, defend on the wing using her length," Holly Rowe said.

Tonight's draft will look different but one of the WNBA's lineups might look like one Lady Bears fans love. An ESPN mock draft has Lauren Cox going third and Te'a Cooper 14th, both to the Indiana Fever while the athletic has both going to Dallas and Juicy Landrum to Connecticut in the third round.

"Much like Chloe Jackson did before Te'a, being more of a combo guard coming in and showcasing herself more at the point and did really well," Bibbs said.

While both mock drafts have Cooper and Cox going in the first or second round, Bibbs said a lot of what determines whether La Vega's Juicy Landrum will hear her name Friday is each team's need on the perimeter.

"It's kind of going to depend on that and I've got things to work on. Spoken to coaches about that," Landrum said.

"Maybe end of second round or into the third round," Bibbs said. "I think for her, it's more situational."

And while they won't be able to walk across the stage and get their jersey, the buzz of a dream coming true is still as alive as it ever has been.
