FALLS COUNTY, Texas — Enel Green Power announced Wednesday that it started construction on its largest U.S. solar farm just outside of Temple and Waco in Falls County.
With construction, the Italian renewal energy company said the project will create 350 construction jobs -- which includes 18 permanent ones -- to the area, as well as a lifetime total of $52 million in landowner payments and over $59 million in tax revenue.
Enel announced that it is also working on two other projects in Texas: A solar project in Grimes County and a wind project near Abilene.
In total, the company projects the three projects will create nearly 1,200 megawatts of electricity, or enough power for 240,000 homes during a hot day in the summer, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Overall, the new projects anticipate a boost of generating capacity to about 2,000 megawatts, or enough to power about 400,000 homes in Texas, the Houston Chronicle added.
“Texas was and is definitely one of the most business-friendly states,” Georgios Papadimitriou, head of Enel Green Power in the United States and Canada, told the Houston Chronical. “It is one of the states where we can develop new power plants very quickly and one where the energy markets are open to investment like we have now.”
Enel remains as one of the largest renewable energy companies in the entire world. It made its first investment in the U.S. about 15 years ago.
