'It's always been a dream of mine' | Midway dance team members fundraise to dance in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Midway High School drill team was awarded for having memorable and extraordinary performances in their dance routines, specifically in jazz, high kick and pom.

HEWITT, Texas — The Midway High School dance team is making history in Central Texas! The girls were invited to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade after receiving a special award.

Now area dancers who are a part of the team are raising money to dance to New York City.

"It's always been a dream of mine to go to the Macy's Parade," sophomore Millie Cherry said.

It's possible because of their hard work and long hours of practice. The team went to competition back in February and received an award that invited the whole team to go.

They were awarded for having memorable and extraordinary performances in their dance routines, specifically in jazz, high kick and pom.

"There's like so many of us, 47," Lacie Jones, sophomore, said. "We were like the biggest group there on our second competition. It really surprised the judges honestly."

It'll take work to get there though. It's not a school sponsored trip, so girls from the team are raising the funds on their own.

"Money doesn't grow on trees," sophomore Maci White said.

From DIY cookie kits to Taylor Swift t-shirts and putting on a drill team audition clinic, with your help their dreams can come true.

"That's just such a huge thing that not everybody has an opportunity to do," sophomore Ava Ochoa said.

Their moms are right by their side supporting them through it all.

"This is an incredible opportunity for our girls to learn teamwork, to learn valuable leadership skills, and what it means to earn something," mother Sara Jones said.

Something these girls will forever cherish.

"Just performing in a parade that's televised nationally," sophomore Lexie Ray said. "So it's a really cool opportunity."
