'I think it's going to change a significant amount of people's lives' | Temple alternative learning nonprofit receives grant

The City of Temple has granted the Unincluded Club $25,000 dollars.

TEMPLE, Texas — A few moments of laughter and prayer are what break the silence in the countryside of Temple, Texas, where the Unincluded Club is found.

Doree Collins, who started it all, created Cultivate Academy and many other programs to elevate the youth of Central Texas.

Now, a grant of $25,000 from the City of Temple will help her continue her efforts, helping to fund programs that connect kids with nature and healthy lives.

"I think it's going to change a significant amount of people's lives, understanding and their lifestyle," Collins said.

Support from the community goes even further than the most recent grant Collins received. Temple also purchased Collins' original property, where the Unincluded Club is.

Collins and her students will now continue to use that land without the financial burden, allowing her to purchase 13 more acres on the other side of town.

"When you give yourself space to be creative there really is no limit to what you can do," Collins said.

That's Collins' goal with the new property. Collins wants to cultivate creativity and get kids back to living life without things like electronics.

The property has one main building right now that holds a crafting area, a kitchen, bathrooms, spaces to relax and bedrooms for kids who need time to lay back and relax.

This isn't the end for Collins, it's only the beginning of a new venture in her new year. Soon the property will hold so much more, pushing the youth of Central Texas into the future.
