2 dead, 1 injured after oversized load falls off trailer on SH-36 in Temple, road remains closed

TEMPLE, Texas — Temple Fire & Rescue says two people are dead and one is injured after an oversized load came off a trailer on State Highway 36 on Saturday, April 27. 

According to Temple Fire, around 11:20 a.m., crews responded to the crash just west of Highway 317. 

Upon arrival, crews found that the oversized load, weighing about 350,000 pounds, had fallen off the trailer and pinned a car with three people inside, Temple Fire says. 

According to Temple Fire, two of the people in the pinned car died and the third person was removed after four hours and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

The identities of those involved have not been released yet. 

East and Westbound lanes of Highway 36 will remain closed as cleanup efforts continue. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and to obey all traffic signals.
