GATESVILLE, Texas — A woman who was found in her home in an "incoherent state" may have been a victim of an assault, according to Gatesville Police.

According to Gatesville PD, officers responded to a home in the 200 block of Mulberry Street around 6:10 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10. They said an elderly woman had been found in her home in "apparent medical distress" by a family friend who had come to the house to check on the woman.

Police said the woman was taken to a regional hospital by Coryell County EMS, where she remains at the time of writing. Police said they will not release the identity of the woman.

The woman was not able to explain what had happened to lead to the medical issue, according to Gatesville Police, who said the "nature of the medical issue suggested the possibility that a crime occurred."

The responding officers reportedly treated the incident as a crime scene. Gatesville PD said the case is under investigation. According to police, hospital test results are expected to help indicate whether the incident was the result of a crime or a medical issue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Gatesville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 254-865-2226, or Centex Crime Stoppers at 254-865-8477.  Reports to Crime Stoppers can be made anonymously.
