Killeen PD identifies 26-year-old shooting victim and suspect who reportedly shot himself

According to police, the two men were friends and an argument led to the shooting.

KILLEEN, Texas — The Killeen Police Department identified 26-year-old Jarquis D. Pold as the man found shot to death on Wednesday, April 17. 

According to police, around 1:36 p.m., officers responded to the 6300 block of Taree Loop after receiving a call from a man saying he had shot his friend. 

Police say officers arrived to the home and found Pold dead with apparent gunshot wounds. 

According to police, officers were able to figure out that both men were friends and an argument led to the deadly shooting. 

Police say the suspect, identified as De'Tavius K. Smith, shot and killed himself in Lampasas County while Copperas Cove police were conducting a traffic stop. Smith was pronounced dead at 2:06 p.m., according to police.

The Killeen Police Department says no officer fired their weapons during this incident and the Lampasas County Sheriff's Department and the Texas Rangers are conducting the death investigation.
