Coryell County Sheriff's Office continues search for escaped inmate

As Brandon Hogan remains at large with no sightings of him, residents in the area are left feeling uneasy.

CORYELL COUNTY, Texas — The search continues for an escaped inmate in Coryell County Tuesday night after law enforcement have had no luck getting Brandon Hogan back in custody.

The Coryell County Sheriff's Office said Hogan escaped from a work crew at Seaton Cemetery on 333 Seaton Road in Leon Junction Monday morning. He is described as a white male, 5'9", 158 lbs. with balding light brown or blonde hair.

As Hogan remains at large with no sightings of him, residents in the area are left feeling uneasy.

"Lock my doors, because I know it's a rural area out there and he could be anywhere and the dogs were barking and so I was naturally scared," said Camilla Edge. "There's nothing but country out there, but if he gets past that graveyard there is no telling where he could be."

She says the search perimeter has endless opportunities for Hogan, that's why Heather Ashley with the sheriff's office says they've had to change tactics.

"Just part of the evolving search where they have branched off and they're going actually into the thickets instead of watching the roads," she explained. "They're searching the unoccupied or uninhabited buildings, blinds, sheds, barns, houses."

The search started Monday morning around 10 a.m. with the help of Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, McLennan County Sheriff's Office, and the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force. It has included tracking K-9's, horseback, aviation assets, ATVs and foot searches.

Ashley told 6 News that tips have poured in but nothing is leading to Hogan. She said citizens need to stay hypervigilant.

"Notice your surroundings," she said. "If you notice anything out of place, especially if you're in the area, please give us a call and we can check it out for you."

As questions pour in about the escape and how Hogan could be apart of a work crew with a dangerous past and violent offenses, the sheriff's office has one main goal.

"We're focused on finding him and keeping our community safe and then, of course every aspect of this will be looked into," Ashley added.

The Sheriff's Office says multiple officers, DPS officers, and K-9 units are now on the lookout.  The department assures citizens that they will not stop searching until Hogan is found, and that the safety of the community is of the utmost importance to them.

The Sheriff's Office is urging people to not approach him, but to call 254-865-7201 or 911 instead if they have any information.
