6 Fix Update | Goates Road being temporarily repaired following 6 News report

Temporary repairs have been made to Goates Road in Troy, fixing potholes that have damaged residents' cars.

TROY, Texas — The City of Troy, Texas has continued temporarily repairing Goates Road following a 6 Fix on Feb. 1, where residents complained the road had been in ruin for years.

Only a portion of the road is being repaired after heavy rainfall washed away the work that had already been done, making the section of the road unable to drive on.

Those who drive in the area can expect the road to reopen on the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 23.

"Early next week they'll come back and should be finished at that point," Troy City Manager Gary Smith said.

In the initial report, multiple residents told 6 News they were tired of all the potholes on Goates Road. They said the crumbling asphalt hurt their cars and many ended up having popped tires and needed major repairs because of it.

Many residents said they felt as though the City was not listening to them when complaints were made and had been told that proper repairs would be done once the construction of new homes in the area wrapped up.

At the time, Smith said they were waiting on a grant from the Killeen-Temple Metropolitan Planning Organization (KTMPO). The grant would give Troy the $3.1 million needed to rebuild Goates Road and other roads that need it desperately.

As of Feb. 22, Smith said they are still waiting to hear back from KTMPO about the status of that request.

"We think we'll hear back in March," Smith added.

This current fix is only temporary and will reportedly help drivers in the area. It will reduce flooding during heavy rainfall and provide a solution until the permanent fix can be funded.
