'It's violating' | Executive Director of Variety at Peaceable Kingdom speaks out on recent thefts

Stacy Bruce is asking the community of Bell County to be on the lookout for any heavy maintenance machinery that thieves might be trying to sell.

KILLEEN, Texas — Stacy Bruce found out the children's charity she helps run in Killeen had been broken into on Jan. 17.

As the Executive Director of Variety at Peaceable Kingdom Bruce never thought anyone would target a nonprofit that serves thousands of kids with and without disabilities each year.

That was her reality on that day. One or multiple people had decided to break into a building on their property in Killeen, taking maintenance equipment like lawnmowers and golf carts.

"I think the overall emotion is violating and it's heartbreaking," she added.

Bruce said they need help from the community. She wants everyone to be on the lookout for maintenance equipment like lawnmowers that could pop-up at pawn shops or on Facebook Marketplace.

The biggest way she said people can help is through donations. They want to be able to keep up with the maintenance needed to keep their acres of land beautiful.

Head on over to their website to make any financial donation.

"We will continue to serve our kids."

Even though the sanctuary set in the hills of Killeen has gone through such a heartbreaking incident they plan to continue welcome so many children and can assure everyone that safety is their priority.

Bruce knows they will have to look into a new security system.

"But there's never enough security in the world, I believe."

She added that the nonprofit did have cameras at the time of the burglary but whoever committed these thefts knew when to turn them off.

At this point the incident is an ongoing investigation, one Bruce hopes will get them their equipment back.
