H-E-B purchase of Temple land sparking discussion of third potential location

Despite owning the land, a spokesperson for H-E-B confirmed they did not have plans for a new store.

TEMPLE, Texas — Temple was buzzing with excitement Monday after word of the popular grocery store chain Here Everything's Better, or H-E-B, purchased the property.

The City of Temple confirmed that the grocery store chain bought the plot of land at the corner of West Adams Avenue and North Kegley Road.

H-E-B Managing Director of Public Affairs responded Monday night to 6 News' request for a comment.

"We have no plans for a third store in Temple at this time," the statement read.

The location is just nine minutes down the road from the other store location on the 1300 block of West Adams Avenue.

"This area is perfect because we have tons of development and tons of apartments coming in around here as well," said Cassidy Flaherty. Flaherty works down the street from the location at Christian Brother's Automotive.

Given the added bonus of minimal traffic from his home and work, Flaherty said he's excited about the idea of a new location.

"Granted (the 31st Street location) may be only nine minutes away, but with the traffic, you’re just trying to get home, which is super convenient because everybody loves H-E-B," Flaherty said.

Timothy Prothro has been a resident of Temple for a month and is a driver for the popular grocery delivery app Favor. He said he frequents H-E-B for many of his pick ups.

"They got some good prices, and I work for Favor and I enjoy working out of HEB," Prothro said.  "But closer to me is better."

The City of Temple said they have not had conversations regarding the development with the company in "recent years."
