ITASCA, Texas — The Itasca vs Dawson football game was halted Friday night for nearly an hour after a player got airlifted from the field.
After a kick-off in the second quarter, an Itasca football player went to catch the ball after it bounced. When a Dawson player tackled him, he laid down on the field and stopped moving.
Itasca Superintendent of Schools Tonya Harris told 6 News the player was tackled and "took a blow to the head". She says he "went down pretty hard" and was airlifted to a Fort Worth hospital.
Harris says they believe he's suffered a severe concussion, but that he was "alert and talking to medics" when he was being loaded into the chopper.
6 News is not releasing the player's name at this time.
