Two arrested after baby girl found critically injured, with burns all over her body, BCSO says

BCSO Sheriff Javier Salazar said the one-year-old girl had severe burns on her face, as well as her upper and lower body.

SAN ANTONIO — Two people have been arrested and charged after a baby girl was found critically injured, with burns all over her tiny body, BCSO says. The details in this story are shocking.

Sheriff Javier Salazar provided an update Monday afternoon and spoke of the atrocities that this one-year-old baby girl suffered at the hands of her parents.

BCSO deputies went to the hospital on Sunday, where the baby was being treated, to find out exactly what happened.

Initially, San Antonio Police had been handling case until it was discovered that it actually happened in Bexar County, not inside the city limits.

The baby was found with severe facial burns, as well as burns on her upper and lower body that Sheriff Salazar said likely occurred from liquid that was either poured or spilled onto her on Friday, November 3.

According to the sheriff, the parents did not seek medical help for their baby daughter immediately, but instead, allegedly injected her with methamphetamine.

Amanda Mann, 31, who is the baby's mother, and Dustin Michael Lawrence, 30, who BCSO said is the baby's father, were both taken into custody.

The sheriff said that on Friday, Mann called the baby's father, saying she needed burn ointment because a pot of boiling water on the stove somehow spilled onto the baby. The sheriff said that on Saturday, November 4, when the baby woke up, they pulled the sheets off her and her skin came off of with the sheets.

The parents then called a family friend who told them to take the baby to the hospital for medical care.

BCSO deputies say that five other children were found at the home, including a 6-year-old who also tested positive for methamphetamine. All of the children are in CPS custody.

Officials say that the baby girl is still alive but only weighs about 18 pounds.

Amanda Mann and Dustin Michael Lawrence both face multiple charges, including endangering a child, endangering a child risking bodily injury, injury to a child resulting in serious bodily injury-reckless, and four counts of abandoning/endangering a child with intent, according to Bexar County Jail records.

“We have literally thrown every possible charge we could,” said Sheriff Salazar. “I hope to God they stay in jail for the better part of the rest of their lives based on what we’ve seen.”

Their bonds are each set at $450,000.

This is a developing story.
