KANSAS CITY, Mo. — After ending the regular season with five straight wins, the Baylor Bears opened up Big 12 tournament play with lucky number six against Texas Tech, taking down the Red Raiders 71-60.
Bears got to work early with a Sarah Andrews three for the first points of game and Bella Fontleroy answered with another three from the arc.
Jana Van Gytenbeek checked in hot from up top going 2-2 in the first half.
Aijah Blackwell once again a bully in the paint with
Second quarter, much better scoring pace for the Bears with Baylor hitting six of their first eight shots.
The Red Raiders then go on a 9-0 run and climb back in the game with 1:30 left in the third to tighten it 52-47.
But, a 9-2 run for the Bears in the fourth with back-to-back steals for Baylor to widen the lead by 10 was just the push Baylor needed.
The Bears take down Texas Tech, and advance to the Quarterfinals to face Iowa State on Saturday with an 11 am tip from the T-Mobile Center.
