Motorcyclist killed in crash during chase in Killeen, police say

Police said the motorcycle struck another vehicle after running a red light while fleeing from a State Trooper.

KILLEEN, Texas — A person is dead after a motorcycle crash in Killeen, according to the Killeen Police Department.

Police stated the driver was fleeing from a State Trooper when the crash occurred.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the intersection of E. Rancier Avenue and N. 10th Street at approximately 9:30 a.m. on March 28. Police said the driver of the motorcycle was being taken to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition when officers arrived on the scene.

Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that a State Trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop on a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle traveling at a "high rate of speed" near the intersection of S. Fort Hood Street and W. Veterans Memorial Boulevard when the motorcycle driver fled.

The trooper followed and caught up to the motorcycle when they reached the intersection of E. Rancier Avenue and N. 10th Street, police said.

According to police, the motorcycle driver "disregarded the red light" and struck a Lexus that was traveling northbound across the intersection.

Police said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at 10:50 a.m. The motorcyclist's name will not be released until next of kin is notified, said police.

The driver of the Lexus was reportedly treated for minor injuries at the scene.

No further information has been given at this time.
