TxDOT preparing Central Texas highways for freezing temperatures

TxDOT crews will lay down brine on major highways in advance of the freezing temperatures expected over the weekend.

WACO, Texas — Texas Department of Transportation crews will prepare Central Texas highways for the approaching freezing temperatures, according a new release sent Tuesday.

TxDOT maintenance crews will pretreat I-35, I-14, State Highway 6 and U.S. Highway 84 with a brine solution beginning Thursday morning, the release said.

The crews will focus first on bridges and overpasses which can ice over the quickest in freezing temperatures.

TxDOT’s Waco District maintenance personnel will continue monitoring the forecast and adjust operations as conditions warrant," the release said. "TxDOT encourages motorists to give TxDOT vehicles at least 200 feet of space as they treat roadways."

According to the 6 News Weather Team, temperatures will begin to fall over the weekend with the possibility for lows in the 20s Saturday and Sunday.
