HILLSBORO, Texas — A former Waco VA officer accused of paying a 15-year-old girl for sex was arrested in Hillsboro earlier this month.
According to an arrest affidavit, the child's mother called police Nov. 12 after seeing a man enter an apartment her daughter was in.
The affidavit said the mother and Hillsboro officers went up to the apartment and tried to get an answer from inside before they saw a man, later identified as Darrell Sanders, leave the residence.
Officers entered the apartment where they saw "fresh wet spots" on the bed sheets and $25 on a night stand, arrest records said.
The child reportedly told an officer she had sex with Sanders and that Sanders paid her $90 for sex on a separate occasion.
Arrest records said Sanders confessed to having sex with the girl twice.
The girl was taken to Hillcrest Hospital in Waco for a sexual assault forensic exam.
Sanders was arrested for sexual assault of a child.
The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System released a statement about the arrest, saying in part:
This individual has been stripped of his badge and is not performing law enforcement duties or interacting with patients.VA has made clear that it will hold employees accountable when they fail to live up to the high standards Veterans and taxpayers expect, and that’s exactly what we’re doing in this case.
