22-year-old charged with murder following shooting of 33-year-old man in Killeen

Xavier Mason Stokes, 22, was arrested by police at the home where the shooting took place.

KILLEEN, Texas — A man that was arrested following the shooting death of a 33-year-old in Killeen on Wednesday, April 17 has been charged with murder, according to an update from Killeen PD.

That evening, just after 10 p.m., police were notified of a shooting in the 900 block of Southside Drive. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Tres Maurice Carter, 33, had been shot. He was taken to medical care by first responders, but was unable to survive, and was declared dead by Justice of the Peace Nicola James at 10:44 p.m.

Xavier Mason Stokes, 22, was arrested by police at the home where the shooting took place. At the time of the arrest, authorities noted that the incident is related to domestic/family violence, and that there is no threat to the community.

On Friday, April 19, a case was made by the Bell County District Attorney's Office and Mason was charged with murder. According to information from Bell County Jail records, Mason is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Authorities say that the murder is being investigated by the Robbery-Homicide Unit, and that there are no other updates as of publish time.
