Gatesville High School to release early Thursday so students, staff can attend crash victim's funeral

Ethan Sandell's funeral service will start at 3 p.m. Thursday, so Gatesville ISD moved dismissal to 2 p.m. Kyle Tennison's funeral is on Saturday.

GATESVILLE, Texas — Gatesville Independent School District said it will let the high school out early Thursday so students and staff can attend the funeral of a student who died in a car crash over the weekend.

Ethan Sandell's funeral service will start at 3 p.m. Thursday, so Gatesville ISD moved dismissal to 2 p.m.

"Because this service is so close to dismissal and there will be a large number of students and staff wishing to attend, we will have a 2:00 early dismissal on Thursday for the high school campus only," the district said.

Students who don't attend the service but need to wait on campus to take a bus home will be monitored in the gym, the district said.

Sandell's service will be held at Coryell Community Church. The visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. May 1 at Scott's Funeral Home.

Another Gatesville ISD student, Kyle Tennison, was killed in the crash too.

Tennison's funeral service were set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Coryell Community Church. His visitation will also be at Scotts' Funeral Home, and will go from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

Both families set up fundraisers to help pay for the burial expenses. You can find the Sandell fundraiser here and the Tennison fundraiser here.
