WACO, Texas — Texas State Technical College in Waco is finally welcoming back members of the public to its beloved student-operated restaurant this Wednesday, Sept. 28.

This will be the first time that the school's Culinary Arts program has been able to welcome both members of the campus community and public to the restaurant in person in over two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The restaurant celebrated the reopening with a Southern-inspired menu featuring dishes like cornbread, grilled pork chops, Texas red chili and bananas Foster.

"I think they did an amazing job," said Martha Rivera, the lead instructor of the college's Culinary Arts program. "They worked hard, and they worked well as a team together. I think this is going to be an exciting semester."

Samuel Mitchell, a TSTC Culinary Arts student, helped to grill the pork chops for the big night.

"It was fun," said Mitchell, "It was very easygoing."

Mitchel also stated that getting the hands-on experience that the restaurant provides is a valuable learning opportunity.

The Culinary Arts students at TSTC carry out practically every stage of the process, from planning menus to preparing meals to serving patrons. Not only do they receive academic credit, they also gain valuable experience in the world of fine dining.

The restaurant has also announced future menu themes. An Italian theme is set for Oct. 5 and 7, a Mexican theme for Oct. 12 and 14, German on Oct. 19 and 21, Greek on Oct. 26 and 28 and Thai for Nov. 2 and 4.

The restaurant is now open to the public, with reservations required. The school has announced that same-day reservations will not be taken. Those who wish to make reservations can do so by emailing wacoculinary@tstc.edu.
