Train-Pedestrian death in Killeen under investigation by police

The incident occurred around 7:24 p.m., and the victim, Christine Gerlinde Rottmann, was pronounced dead an hour after by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson.

KILLEEN, Texas — The death of a 58-year-old is under investigation in Killeen following an incident that took place Wednesday evening.

According to police, around 7:24 p.m., they received a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a BSNF train at a railroad crossing in the 100 block of 8th Street. When officers arrived, they found the victim dead on the tracks.

A preliminary investigation found that the train's conductor spotted the victim on the tracks while the train was traveling roughly 25 mph eastbound, and despite the conductor sounding the horn and engaging the emergency brakes, the victim did not move resulting in the collision.

The victim, Christine Gerlinde Rottmann, was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson. 

An autopsy has been ordered on Rottmann and will be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensics Sciences of Dallas, according to police.
