A natural gas line break in Copperas Cove shut off service to customers throughout the city.

COPPERAS COVE, Texas — Natural gas service was restored to schools, hospitals and hotels in Copperas Cove as of Friday morning, Atmos Energy said in a press release.

Atmos technicians were going door-to-door throughout the city to restore service for every other affected customer.

The outage began Thursday morning while Atmos crews were performing maintenance at one of the company's facilities.

"Our highly trained technicians experienced a condition with our equipment which resulted in the shutdown of our system to make repairs," said Tammie Bowman, Atmos Energy manager of public affairs. "Unfortunately, that resulted in lost natural gas service to more than 4,000 valued customers."

Copperas Cove police first notified the public about the outage in a Facebook post.

Atmos Energy said it has trucks throughout the area and all employees have an identification badge with the person's name, picture and Atmos Energy logo.

Atmos said a qualified technician will need to enter each home or business and a resident 18 years of age or older will need to be present.

If the customer is not at home, a technician will leave a door tag with instructions on how to restore service.

The company said anyone with questions can call 888-286-6700.
